The Future Physician Leaders Program is a long-term mentorship program for students who are interested in fulfilling a mission of service to the community. The program is a community-based collaborative effort and the City of Temecula recently partnered with the UCR School of Medicine. The Temecula program is based out of the Temecula Valley Hospital.
Students in the program participate in 3 different components:
Didactic - Lectures, workshops, and group discussions held primarily in the summer along with networking events with physicians and healthcare leaders throughout the rest of the year
Community Service and Leadership - Allows students the kinesthetic learning experience of community health and gives them the opportunity to improve healthcare access to their community
Physician Shadowing - Exposes students to a physician’s life and patient-doctor interaction in the effort to inspire the students to do similar work.
