Temecula Valley Museum honors U.S. Veterans with several events and exhibits

Veterans day

The Temecula Valley Museum is proud to host several events and exhibits in honor of United States Veterans in celebration of the 100th  anniversary of Armistice Day.

The Volunteers – Americans Join World War I exhibition includes dozens of black and white photographs and three-dimensional artifacts honoring the tens of thousands of American men and women who sprang into action months before the United States government formally announced its decision to enter the war in support of our friends and allies in Europe.

One century ago, as the First World War devastated Europe, Americans watched in dismay at the war’s human costs.  But they did not just watch – they got involved.  Volunteers distributed food, clothing, and medicine to soldiers and civilians in Belgium and France.  The choice that tens of thousands of young men and women made in Europe’s time of need transformed the meaning of volunteerism and elevated the status of the United States around the world.  This unique exhibit will be on display in the second-floor gallery at the Temecula Valley Museum from Monday, October 29, 2018 through Friday, January 18, 2019.

In conjunction with The Volunteers exhibit, the Temecula Valley Museum will host a bus tour to the USS Midway Museum in San Diego on Thursday, November 8, 2018.  Attendees will meet at the Temecula Valley Museum at 8:30 am, and the bus will depart for San Diego at 9:00 am sharp.  The cost is $65 per person, which includes the bus ride, museum admission, and lunch.  Secure your seat by pre-registering online through the City’s website (Activity #8740.201).

Finally, in celebration of Veterans Day, the Temecula Valley Museum will host a small special display of military artifacts in our Rotunda Gallery, with objects ranging from new to WWII vintage.  Alongside the exhibit, the museum will play an award-winning video featuring Temecula Valley Veterans sharing stories about their participation in World War II.  This exhibit will be on display from Wednesday, November 6, 2018 through Sunday, November 18, 2018.  Museum staff will also participate in the World War I Centennial Commissions Bells for Peace program, and will ring the Chapel of Memories bell on Veterans Day, Sunday, November 11, 2018 at 11:00 am.  For more information about the program, please visit  #TollTheBell
