The Temecula City Council appointed Matt Rahn, during Tuesday night's regular City Council meeting, as Temecula’s 2022 Mayor beginning January 1, 2022. Zak Schwank was appointed Temecula’s 2022 Mayor Pro Tem.
Each December, the Temecula City Council selects council colleagues to serve as the Mayor and the Mayor Pro Tem for the following year. Mayor Matt Rahn was elected to the City Council by the citizenry in November of 2014 for a term of four years, and was re-elected in 2018. Rahn first served as Temecula’s Mayor in 2018 with public safety and “Temecula Safe” as the yearlong theme. As Mayor for 2022, Rahn’s top priority continues to be public safety. Other key issues include traffic/transportation, responsible/thoughtful growth, parks/recreation, maintaining an overall high quality of life as a business-friendly and family-friendly safe city, and safeguarding local control.
In the absence of the Mayor, the Mayor Pro Tem assumes the Mayor’s duties and responsibilities as presiding officer of the City Council.
