Volunteer Opportunities

The City of Temecula offers many volunteer opportunities to residents. Volunteering enables citizens to become more involved in their community, local government, and nonprofits. Please review the tables below listing options to volunteer for the City and local nonprofits in our community; then click on the names/links to contact them directly and learn more on how to volunteer.

City Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer for the CityDescription/Activity
Adopt-a-ParkHelp with the maintenance and beautification of our City parks. Volunteers enhance park/playground amenities, and provide general upkeep and repair of equipment, recreation facilities, and trails.
AquaticsJunior Lifeguard: youth/teens trained in the basics of water safety, first aid, and introduction to basic lifeguard skills.
Swim Buddy: adaptive swim lesson program where volunteers work directly with lesson participants.
Explorers: FireThe Fire Explorer Program is designed to allow youth (14 -20 years old) explore a career in the fire service, receiving training similar to volunteer and professional firefighters, including basic fire chemistry, hose evolutions, ladder operations, medical/CPR training, hazardous materials, and auto extrication. Temecula Post meetings are held weekly.
Explorers: Police

Police Explorers give young men and women (14 - 21 years old) a hands-on look at what a career in law enforcement is about as they volunteer their time to their community assisting law enforcement with directing traffic at special events, crime prevention programs, light security details, and when eligible, participate in a ride-along program with deputies from the Police Department, acting as an extra set of eyes and ears for the officers and assist them on various calls.
Community Action Patrol (CAP)Volunteers (35+ years old) act as the eyes and ears of the Temecula Police Department as they patrol the streets of Temecula, business/shopping parking lot areas, and schools & parks. Additional assignments may include emergency call-outs for major accidents, citations for handicap/fire hydrant/fire lanes/red curb/graffiti, assist with crime scene security, or vacation home checks.
Community Services DepartmentOpportunities within the Temecula Community Services Department include: Temecula Community Theater, Temecula Valley History Museum, Mary Phillips Senior Center and Special Events.
Homeless OutreachFor homeless volunteer opportunities, please see the Community Mission of Hope (listed in the community table below).
Internships/FellowshipsUndergraduate college students, graduate college students, and high school graduates gain hands-on project experience in local government.
LibraryVisit the Ronald H. Roberts Temecula Public Library to apply in person to volunteer for either the general library or the children’s library.
Mounted Posse

Sponsored by the Temecula Police Department, the mounted posse team assists law enforcement with search and rescue, high visibility patrol, mounted training, and working special events. Both horse and rider train throughout the year in crowd control, defensive tactics, search and rescue, tracking and more. Members use their own horse/equipment volunteering each month and attend monthly team meetings.
Summer Day CampJunior Counselors apply March-April to assist with camp activities.
Temecula Citizen Corps (TCC)Volunteers are trained in First Aid/CPR/AED to help fellow neighbors and emergency responders and the City in time of need or an emergency event.

Neighborhood Drop-In


Advocate for the construction, maintenance, and safety of current & new Temecula Valley skate parks. Promote safe, clean, and inclusive action sports parks for the youth and other supporters of the skateboarding, biking, scooter, and roller communities. Volunteers that join the street team may help by attending local events such as neighborhood park clean-ups, coaching skate & bike clinics, or simply handing out flyers at community events.

Specially trains citizen volunteers to respond to traumatic incidents to support victims and their families in the first few hours following a tragedy, available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
