Remodeling Your Home
Home remodels often require permits, from ceiling fans to structural changes. It is best to talk to our Community Development Department to determine if you need any permits for your project.
Remodel Permits Required
Most kitchen and bathroom remodels require building permits. Building permits are required because remodeling a kitchen or bathroom often involves changes in the existing electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems and may cause alteration to the framing of the room. California Law mandates obtaining a building permit for this type of construction.
Room Additions
If you are adding a room, view our Room Addition Process Guide (PDF).

Determine Zoning
- Before developing a parcel of land, you will need to determine if your property is zoned for your desired use or if there are any special development considerations for your project.
- The Planning Division will be able to tell you the zoning of the property or if there are any special considerations for your project. If your project requires special handling, our staff will inform you of the requirements and next steps.
