Level Descriptions

Read the following Level Descriptions to get a better idea of what your swimmer should be capable of before entering a level and what your swimmer will learn in class.  All classes will include age appropriate safety topics.

Beginning Levels
Parent & Me

Ages: 6 months - 3 years
This course is designed for parent/child interaction with instruction from certified Water Safety Instructor. Parent & Me introduces basic water skills to parent/child as well as age appropriate safety topics. Water adjustment skills such as blowing bubbles and underwater exploration skills are taught. Basic water skills such as floating on front and back, rolling over, kicking on front and back, and arm movement on front and back are also introduced. 

Note: Infants must wear a swim diaper under suits while in the water.
Mother and Her Child

Beginning Toddler

Ages: 3 - 5 years
 This course is designed to be a preschool age child’s first experience in water without a caretaker. This course introduces basic swimming skills, water safety skills, and age appropriate safety topics. Students must be able to listen and follow directions. Water adjustment skills such as blowing bubbles and underwater exploration skills are taught. Basic water skills such as floating on front and back, rolling over, kicking on front and back, and arm movement on front and back are also introduced. All skills are performed with instructor support.
Toddler in the Pool

Advanced Toddler

Ages: 3 - 5 years
 This course is designed to follow Beginning Toddler for ages 3 – 5.  Students must be able to blow bubbles, front and back float unassisted for 5 seconds, submerge face without goggles, and independently exit pool. Students must be able to listen and follow directions. Skills taught include fully submerging head, bobbing, swimming on front, swimming on back and introduction of treading water. 

Note: Participants who pass Advanced Toddler move on to Level 2 (even if under age 5).
Toddler Swimming in the Pool

Level 1 - Water Exploration

Ages: 5+ years
 This course is designed to be a beginning level for children 5 and above. In this course students will learn introductory aquatic skills such as: blowing bubbles, under water exploration, introduction to front crawl, back stroke, back float, front float, kicking, and bobbing. 
Child Swimming With Supervision

Intermediate Levels


Level 2 - Primary Skills

Ages: 3+ years
 Participants must have mastered Level 1 skills before entering this class. The objective of this course is for students to successfully learn fundamental skills. Students will learn to do skills without support.  Skills being taught include glides, floats, front crawl, back crawl, treading water, rhythmic breathing and introduction to breaststroke. 
Child Swimming With Goggles

Level 3 - Stroke Development

Ages: 5+ years
Participants must have mastered Level 2 skills before entering this class.  This course will teach rotary breathing, diving from the side, dolphin kicks, scissor kicks, front crawl, elementary backstroke and treading water.
Little Girl in the Pool

Advanced Levels


Level 4 - Stroke Improvement

Ages: 5+ years
Participants must have mastered Level 3 skills before entering this class and comfortably swim the length of the pool (25 yards). This course develops confidence in strokes and introduces new strokes. Skills being taught include back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, sidestroke, and endurance. 
Child Practices Swimming

Level 5/6 - Combo Class


Ages: 5+ years
This course will be taught as a combination class. Participants will be assessed and placed into the appropriate levels.

Diving Into Pool

Level 5 - Stroke Refinement

 
Participants must have mastered Level 4 skills before entering this class. At this level the students will have basic stroke skills. The goal is to coordinate and refine key stroke. New skills are flip turns, surface dives, and sculling


Level 6 - Skill Proficiency

Participants must have mastered Level 5 skills before entering this class. The objective if Level 6 is to fine tune strokes so students can swim with more efficiency and power over greater distances. Students will develop endurance by the end of this course.
