California Department of Fish and Wildlife (CDFW) does not remove, trap or put to death coyotes that have taken (killed or attacked) pets.  However, when CDFW is notified  about a documented attack on a human by a coyote (and physical contact has occurred), the CDFW will serve as the lead agency in the investigation.  It is recommended  that individuals interested in removing a problem coyote from their neighborhood hire a trained professional.

For more information and tips on what you can do to deter coyotes, please contact the California Department of Fish and Wildlife at www.keepmewild.org  (Inland Deserts Region 909-484-0167).
